Do You Want to See Sculptures at Missoula’s Silver Park?

A new project could bring art to one of Missoula's parks and the public is invited to give input on the proposal.

Silver Park is the "hidden gem" park of Missoula. It's nestled between the Clark Fork River and Ogren Park and offers access to walking/jogging/biking trails. It may not host as many events as Caras Park, but it has been home to events like the Lard Butt 1K and the Missoula Funk Festival.

The new project would bring a sculpture walk to Silver Park.

What is a Sculpture Walk?

Public parks in many cities feature art and sculptures. The Greta Hackett Outdoor Sculpture Gallery on Mercer Island is an example. For this proposal, sculptures would be installed throughout Silver Park, mostly on pedestals, but possibly mounted on the ground or erected alongside landscaping. The idea is that someone walking through the park could view sculptures like an outdoor art exhibit.

If/when the project is approved the hope is to have "up to 10 pieces (of art) in the first year of partnership."

Who Is Involved?

The proposed project is a collaboration between public and private groups

• City of Missoula Public Art Committee
• Arts Missoula
• The Missoula Outdoor Sculpture Park Association
• Parks and Recreation

Funding would come from "donors, sponsors and grants from art foundations" and Parks and Recreation would be responsible for maintenance.

If the project is successful, the proposal says additional art could be added to Silver Park and the Milwaukee Trail or other Missoula Parks.
