28 Bands, 3 Venues and 4 Days of Music in Missoula

For the next four days, Missoula is going to be filled with music. 

We're talking Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and while it might not be quite as big as Zootown Music Festival, there is going to be a LOT of music happening around town.

We're talking about Daisy Chain Fest 2026, and this is a really cool event. 

DIY Culture: Affordable Music for All

It's DIY, independent, and affordable. Most importantly, it's about giving musicians a place to play and giving Missoula music fans a chance to discover someone they may never have heard before. 

A Rich Lineup: 28 Bands Across Three Venues

This year's festival features 28 bands playing at three different Missoula locations: Free Cycles, Monk's and the ZACC.

Here's the part that really caught my attention. 

Daisy Chain received 217 applications for those 28 spots. 

That's a lot of bands that wanted to come play in Missoula. 

Some of the bands you'll recognize. Some you've probably never heard of. Some may be completely new to you.

Touring Acts vs. Local Talent: A Unique Mix

This year also features a particularly strong group of bands from the Portland area, with seven or eight acts making the trip to Missoula. 

That's one of the things I really like about what Daisy Chain is doing. They're mixing touring bands with musicians from Missoula and around Montana.

You'll find Missoula bands like Doris Doom, cul-de-sac, Les Duck and Calamity Cowboy, along with many other acts such as Idaho Green, Bull Market, Pillowcase and the Love Darts. 

It's about discovering something new. 

Preserving Grassroots Music: The Vision Behind Daisy Chain

I spoke with Dónal Lakatua, one of the founders of the Daisy Chain Arts Collective, and it's pretty clear this isn't just about putting on a four-day music festival. 

It's about keeping the grassroots music scene alive in Missoula. 

The organization grew out of a desire to help fill some of the gaps left after smaller venues and all-ages music opportunities changed around 2016 to 2018. 

Lakatua grew up going to local shows in Missoula as a teenager and now wants to help make sure the next generation gets those same opportunities. 

These are independent rockers. 

These are the ones you can go up and talk to. These are the ones you're actually going to get a chance to experience. 

The festival is also keeping things affordable; you can watch three or four bands for $10 to $20, along with festival wristbands for the entire weekend. Most of the shows are for all ages.
