The Roxy Theater has been a cornerstone for community cinema in Missoula for decades and is now under new leadership.

Sarah Ferguson, known to many as “Fergie,” has worked at the Roxy for over eight years, most recently serving as the Communications and Membership Director. She now steps into the role of Executive Director, saying she feels “incredibly grateful for the responsibility of stewarding such an important Missoula arts institution.”

What’s Next for The Roxy

During a recent studio visit, Ferguson shared a preview of her vision for the theater. She emphasized a renewed focus on strengthening partnerships with local organizations, including the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. “Like so many in the community, my love for the Roxy runs deep, and I can’t wait to get to work with our staff and the Missoula community to keep The Roxy accessible and thriving,” she said.

Originally from Minneapolis, Ferguson worked in copywriting and creative roles in the advertising industry before joining the Roxy as a community outreach specialist. Since then, she has worn many hats at the theater, from producing festivals to leading marketing initiatives.

Located on the Hip Strip in downtown Missoula, the Roxy is a nonprofit, community-owned theater. According to the Roxy website, their mission is to "make the world a better place through the power of cinema, education, and community."

Support Your Local Theater

Ferguson encourages anyone interested in supporting the Roxy to get involved. The theater regularly seeks volunteers, especially during film festival seasons. Memberships are available at various levels and include different perks. “Just come to a movie,” she added. “A lot of people don’t realize that attending one of your favorite films helps the Roxy.”

The Roxy continues to serve as a cultural hub in Missoula, offering first-run films, community events, and film festivals. With Ferguson at the helm, the theater looks ahead to a new chapter of growth and collaboration.
