Montanans love their pets. For me, one of the toughest parts of being a pet owner is picking the perfect name. I remember when we got our dog, we had a family meeting about what we were going to name him. It was a process and everyone had input.

These days people are finding inspiration from a lot of places for naming their pets. Rover just released their list of top pet names from the last decade and what trends they are seeing. According to their report, the TV show "Yellowstone" has had an impact on pet names in 2022.

“Yellowstone” took over living rooms in more ways than one in 2022. TThe top trending “Yellowstone”-inspired name for cats ishe name Yellowstone is trending up 485% for dogs, with Dutton (294%), Teeter (125%), Rip (100%), John (81%), Beth (64%), and Kayce (31%) also trending up. Dutton, up 682%.

None of the Yellowstone names have made the top list of names for pets for 2022, but the increase is interesting, and maybe they will be making the top list sometime soon. According to the report the most popular female dog names are:

  1. Luna
  2. Bella
  3. Daisy
  4. Lucy
  5. Lily

The most popular male dog names are:

  1. Max
  2. Charlie
  3. Cooper
  4. Milo
  5. Buddy

Some of the names made me laugh a bit. Some people name their dog "Adam Sandler" or "Happy Gilmore." I have never thought of giving a pet of mine two names. All of my animals have always had just one. This opens up my world to a bunch of different possibilities. By the way, we settled on the name "Bennie," because that is what he looked like to us. If we ever get a new pet, I will have to petition hard for the family to name it "Pink Floyd."
