Grilling isn’t just a summer activity in Montana; it’s a year-round tradition. Whether it’s the middle of winter or a warm summer evening, the smell of food on the grill is something you’ll find in neighborhoods across the state.

But if you’re someone who fires up the grill regularly, there’s an important safety alert you need to know about.

A popular grill cleaning tool, the NexGrill wire bristle grill brush, has been recalled after reports of a serious safety risk, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The brushes, sold primarily through The Home Depot, can shed small metal bristles during use.

Why This Recall Matters

According to safety officials, these tiny wire bristles can break off and stick to grill grates. From there, they can end up in your food without you realizing it.

If ingested, the bristles pose a significant health risk, including:

  • Internal injuries
  • Damage to the throat or digestive tract
  • In severe cases, the need for surgery

What product Is Affected?

The recall specifically involves:

  • NexGrill Wire Bristle Grill Brush
  • Model number: 530-0024
  • An estimated 10.2 million units sold

With that many brushes out there, there’s a good chance plenty of Montana grillers may already have one sitting next to their barbecue.

What You Should Do

If you own one of these brushes:

  • Stop using it immediately
  • Return it to The Home Depot for a full refund
  • Consider switching to safer grill-cleaning alternatives like nylon brushes or grill stones

A Quick Reminder for Montana Grill Season (All Year Long)

In Montana, grilling isn’t limited by the calendar. But this recall is a good reminder that even the tools we use every day can come with unexpected risks.

Before your next cookout, whether it’s in the snow or sunshine, it’s worth taking a quick look at your grill gear to make sure everything is safe and ready to go.
