Montana Burger Named One of America’s Top 5—Have You Tried It?

I know this take is going to get people fired up. 

When it comes to burgers, everyone has their favorite. Some people want an old-school greasy cheeseburger on a soft bun. Others are looking for a gourmet burger piled high with bacon jam, avocado, or just about anything else. 

That's what makes the search for Montana's best burger so much fun. It's a debate that will probably never be settled. 

A Journey Through Montana's Favorite Burgers

I've made it a point to try burgers all over the state. Between road trips and traveling for my son's sporting events over the years, I've had great burgers in Missoula, Billings, Helena, and plenty of small Montana towns. Every time someone recommends a new place, it goes on my list.

Well, now I've got another one. 

Spotlight on Roadhouse Diner: Montana's Best Burger

According to LoveFood, the best fast-food-style burger in Montana comes from a place I've never visited: the Roadhouse Diner in Great Falls. 

Even more impressive? It didn't just earn the top spot in Montana. LoveFood ranked it as the No. 4 best fast-food burger in the country. 

Their pick is the Roadhouse Burger, although one menu item immediately caught my attention: the Death by Bacon Burger, loaded with four slices of bacon and bacon jam. You had me at bacon jam. 

This isn't the first time the Roadhouse Diner has received national attention.

The diner has been named Montana's Best Burger by Distinctly Montana for four consecutive years (2022-2025). It's also been featured in Travel + Leisure, was highlighted by TripAdvisor as one of the country's hidden gems, and ex-owner Tara Beam won Guy's Grocery Games in 2017. 

The Road Ahead: New Beginnings for a Local Icon

In September, it was announced that the Roadhouse Diner has new owners, according to KRTV.

At this point, I feel like I've been missing out. 

The Unending Quest for the Perfect Burger

Of course, no burger list is ever going to settle the argument. 

Missoulians will stand by the Mo Club. Billings has the Burger Dive. Bozeman and Helena have their own local favorites. Every Montana town seems to have that one place locals swear serves the best burger in the state. 

Now I've got one more stop to add to my road trip list. 

Looks like I need to make a trip to Great Falls and finally see if the Roadhouse Diner will make my list of best burgers.
