Recently, I got up early in the morning to stand in line to get the annual studded snow tires put on the rig. The past few years, it hasn't felt like I needed to use them. The issue, for me, is that I live on a hill and snow tires are needed so I can get to and from my house. I may have gotten the tire changed over a bit early according to some forecasts.

There have been multiple long range forecasts for Montana that are predicting we may see above normal snowfall for the season. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, as well as "Powder Chasers", this winter may seem some great snow for skiing. That also will mean that travel may be a bit difficult across the state, but that isn't happening yet.

As people are making their travel plans for the Thanksgiving holiday across the state, this is the time to start looking at the long-range forecasts. Being just shy of two weeks away from the holiday, this is where the weather models start shaping up for what we may expect.

According to the National Weather Service's forecast for the month of November, it looks Western Montana and Central and Eastern Montana are going to have different weather patterns for the rest of the month.

Western Montana is expected to see above-normal precipitation for the rest of November, while Eastern Montana is going to see normal precipitation.

The Old Farmer's Almanac has an extended forecast for areas of Montana that are similar to NOAA's forecast for November 24 through 30, including the Thanksgiving holiday.

  • Intermountain Forecast which includes Western Montana: Snow showers north, sunny south, turning mild.
  • High Plains region which includes Central and Eastern Montana: A few showers, warm

As for temperatures, it currently looks like the state will experience average or above-average temperatures, with Western Montana expecting above-average precipitation. So plan your travels accordingly.
