Montana keeps racking up national—and now global—recognition, and this latest honor just adds to the list.

According to Time magazine, one destination in Montana has officially been named among the “World’s Greatest Places to Visit in 2026.” And yes—it’s one of the state’s most iconic spots.

Why Big Sky Made TIME’s Global List

That place? Big Sky.

It may not come as a shock to longtime Montanans, but it’s still a big deal to see Big Sky earn a spot on a global list that highlights top destinations across continents—from Europe and Asia to Africa and beyond.

What really caught the spotlight was Moonlight Basin, a luxury resort community that’s quickly making a name for itself.

What Is Moonlight Basin?

Located in the mountains just outside Big Sky, Moonlight Basin offers:

  • High-end lodging and private residences
  • Ski-in/ski-out access near Big Sky Resort
  • Incredible views of Lone Peak
  • Year-round outdoor recreation

What makes this even more impressive? The development is still relatively new, with major expansion and luxury accommodations opening as recently as 2025—yet it’s already landing on one of the most prestigious travel lists in the world.

How Montana Stands Out Nationally and Globally

Time’s list doesn’t just focus on the U.S.—it spans the entire globe. So for Montana to land a spot—especially with only a handful of North American destinations included—says a lot.

Other U.S. locations that made the broader list include places in states like Idaho, Utah, and California, but Montana’s lone representative stands tall with Big Sky and Moonlight Basin leading the charge.

This is another reminder of what people here already know: Montana isn’t just beautiful—it’s world-class.

And while a stay at Moonlight Basin might not be in everyone’s budget, the recognition shines a spotlight on the entire Big Sky area—and really, the state as a whole.
