Mineral County Food Bank Has Seen Big Changes in 2022
The 28th Annual Guerrilla Turkey Drive gets underway November 14th thru November 18th. You can drop off your turkey or money donations at our new location at 3250 South Reserve. This year we have teamed up once again with Missoula Electric Cooperative, Decker Truck Lines and KPAX-TV.
Mineral County Food Bank
As we continue to highlight some of the area food banks that we have helped out over the years we shift the focus out of the Bitterroot Valley and move into some of the most western part of Montana. The Mineral County Food Bank services the communities of both Superior and St. Regis, Montana.
Changes Over The Last Year
In May of 2022, the Mineral County Food Bank moved into the oldest commercial building in downtown Superior and that has been a challenge to remodel and turn it into a functioning food bank.
Everyone who is involved with the Mineral County Food Bank is a volunteer and they are only open one day week. I spoke with Rose Duncan about how their budget is holding up and who they are seeing come in their doors. She said, "We are seeing a lot more seniors coming in, that's actually our largest demographic group right now. That's reflecting directly on their fixed incomes and the economy the way it is... They are the majority of the people we are serving right now."
The numbers that food banks are seeing right now are on the rise all over Western Montana and that is before we have seen the weather turn colder as we head into the late fall and early winter months. With your help we are hoping to be able to make sure everyone in Western Montana is able to at least have a turkey for Thanksgiving. Please consider donating this year to the Guerrilla Turkey Drive. Thank you.
