If You Had To Leave Montana, Where Would You Go?
We have been writing a lot about out-of-staters coming to Montana recently. There are so many stories. Montana was the number one destination for relocation during Covid. If you move here we have stories about Montana bar etiquette and how we really don't hate you. People are moving to Montana from so many different places. Just a quick scan of license plates lately, there have been plates from Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Washington, the list goes on. Everyone who moves to Montana has a story and a reason that brought them here.
People Don't Want to Leave Montana
I thought about the people coming here and it got me thinking about the possibility, if I ever had to leave Montana for any reason. Where would I go to live? We posed the question to our listeners "If you had to move away from Montana, which state would you go to?". This is a hypothetical. I know that no one really wants to ever leave Montana once they get here. If people here did have to leave this is where they would go.
Alaska Was a Popular Answer
Alaska was the most popular answer to the question. Alaska is similar to Montana, it is a big state with a low population. With the state motto "North to the Future", I can see why this would be an attractive place for some people.
There Are Other States Outside of Montana
Some people want to go somewhere a bit warmer.
Montana's Neighbors
Some people don't want to go too far away, or want to be in similar states to Montana.
For Some It's Montana or Leave The Country
If someone had to leave Montana and go to a different country, Ireland was the top choice.
For Some Montana is a State of Mind
Some people would be lost if they weren't at home in Montana.
Some People Are Just Fine Being Away From Montana
Not everyone stays in Montana. This state isn't for everyone. Some people will be content not to be here at all.
I Don't Know Where I Would Go
I thought about this question a lot. I still don't know where I would end up if I had to choose a different place to live. I have visited a lot of places. If I had to leave Montana, and if it was in the United States, I would consider the Oregon coast. If I had to move out of the country, Scotland or Canada. It is a good thing I don't have to make that choice right now, because Montana continues to be my home.
