Here’s How Montana Can Be Better For Veterans
Montana has its share of Veterans. Many Montanans have worn a uniform and helped to defend our country. I have family members who have served in the military and some family members who continue to proudly serve our country.
When men and women have completed their service to our country, there are some states that are better than others for offering support for our Veterans. Montana has some room for improvement in how we show how much we care for our Veterans according to a report.
SmileHub.com put together a list of the "States That Care the Most About Veterans", and Montana is pretty far down the list coming in at 36. Montana has one of the highest shares of Veteran population, coming in at number 4 behind, Alaska, Maine, and Virginia.
Montana Ranks 48 for Veteran Community Support
When it comes to Veteran health and wellness we rank high, coming in at number 7, which is good news. But where we could use some improvement is in our rank of "Community Support". Montana ranks towards the bottom coming in at 48 out of 50. That ranking surprised me, since Montana has seemed like a state that doesn't hesitate to show support of our Veterans in various ways.
Some of the metrics SmileHub.com used to determine "Community Support" are educational opportunities, Veteran charities, cemeteries, museums and share of homeless Veterans. Compared to most other states, this is where Montana ranks the lowest. Connecticut and Nevada are the only other states that rank below Montana.
SmileHub.com has also compiled a list of what they consider the best charities for Veterans in 2024. If you would like to help support our Veterans you can check out that list here. Now that we know where we can improve, let's work together to show our Veterans we care about their service and appreciate the sacrifices they made defending our country.
