An Open Letter To The Missoula County Treasurer’s Office
Dear Missoula County Clerk and Treasure's Office,
Thank you for your help in clearing up my title issues. I had purchased a used vehicle and had a 90-day temporary permit. I was informed that I was supposed to get a postcard in the mail before the temporary permit expired. The postcard never came in the mail.
Three days prior to the expiration of my temporary permit, we called the Missoula County Treasurer and Clerk's office about the paper work. They had yet to send the postcard to us, but they did inform us that the paperwork has been filed, so we were free to come in and get our license plates.
The 'Virtual Line' is Fantastic
I used the Missoula County Clerk and Treasurer website and followed the easy prompts to join the "virtual line" on my way downtown. When you do this, you will get a text message letting you know where you are in line and the approximate wait time until your name is called. You then get a text when it is your turn and to go to a specific window. It took me longer to get downtown and to find parking than it took for my name to be called. The process proved much more efficient than it has been in the past.
They Give You A Chance to Get Back in Line
If your name gets called before you get there, they considerately offered offered the option to rejoin the "virtual line" via text message. I did just that. I was back at the head of the line and only had to wait a few minutes before my name was called. The person who waited on me was kind, courteous and efficient. After they physically tracked down my paperwork, it only took a couple of minutes before the new license plates were in my hands. It took me longer to pick out which license plate I wanted than to get my plates.
They Also Offer Tips To Make It Even Easier
The person who helped me also gave me advice and tips on how to get permanent license plates for my vehicle, without having to show up in person at the DMV. In less than 15 minutes, I was on my way.
I have spoken to others about the process and they agree with me, the streamlining and use of technology have made the process of registering a vehicle in Montana incredibly easy and quick. For that I thank you all.
Sincerely, Chris Wolfe
