New Dessert Store Opens in Missoula’s Southgate Mall
Is Missoula's Southgate Mall getting a makeover, a glow-up even?
Let's recap some of the changes or upcoming additions at the Southgate Mall from recent months:
- The Red Robin restaurant closed
- The Gap store closed
- A new J. Crew Store is coming
- A new Hobby Lobby will go into the old Lucky's Market location.
- A new Texas Roadhouse is coming
On a recent trip to the mall, I noticed another exciting change.
New Store from the Owners of the Sushi Palace
The Sushi Palace, located next to the Verizon store in the mall, has been a favorite of locals, some claiming it's the best sushi in Missoula. Reviews talk about how fresh the fish is, how kind the staff are, and how quickly the food is prepared. The Sushi Palace also serves ramen and poke bowls.
On my way to order my own sushi, I noticed a new business in the place where Dairy Queen and Orange Julius were once located. According to an article in the Missoulian from March, the owners announced on Facebook that they would be opening a new store, and it would offer "boba, Asian desserts, sandwiches and salads, and fresh juices."
The Dessert Palace Menu
A quick view of the Dessert Palace's menu shows desserts like Falooda, a mix of ice cream, tapioca pudding, custard, and cream, Thai Mango Coconut Sticky Rice, and Yangon Ice Salad, which has shaved ice, syrup, jellies, and condensed milk, among other dessert options.
They also have a ton of drink options: 6 boba milk teas, 17 specialty boba teas, 14 fruit drinks, 4 fresh fruit smoothies, and 6 fresh juices.
Given the Dessert Palace's location in the previous Orange Julius location, this seems to be a nice way to continue the yummy-drink tradition.
