According To Report Montana Isn’t As Great As Some Think
If you judge Montana by how many people seem to be moving here, we should be one of the "Best" states in the country. After all we were the number one state people moved to during the pandemic. We have also, more recently, become the second fastest growing state in the country. Are we really one of the "best" states though?
Montana Pride
Montanans are very proud of their state. There is so much pride in the state, that some of them would like to keep to themselves. But where does Montana rank compared to other states on the list of the "Best" or "Worst" in the country? Depends on who you ask. According to U.S. News & World Report, Montana is smack dab in the middle.
Montana is Right in the Middle
Montana has been ranked as the 25th "Best State" in the United States. According to the report, they used more than 70 different metrics spread across eight categories, like health care, education, natural environment and more. The number one "Best" state according to the report is Utah, followed by Washington, and Idaho.
Montana Ranked High and Low
Montana ranked highest in the "Economy" category, coming in at number 6 overall. A category that I assumed Montana would rank high was "Natural Environment", we came in at number 33. According to this report we ranked as one of the worst states for "Air & Water Quality" coming in at number 47.
Maybe More People Will Choose Other States Instead of Montana
When reports like this come out, I am always interested in what they have to say and how we rank. Now we know there are 24 states that are "better" than Montana. Does that mean more people will be choosing to move to those other states instead of Montana? Only time will tell.
