Less than six months after announcing a new Missoula studio, Story House Partners says they're ready to start shooting their first feature film this coming month.

Story House Montana cut the ribbon on the soundstage and studio location at the former Roseberg Forest Products site in mid-May.

Now, Variety is reporting the studio will start production on the family drama "St. George" in October. The film is being developed in cooperation with the National Down Syndrome Society and will tell the story of two brothers coping with the death of their sister amid the challenges of the genetic condition.

🎬 The film will be shot on location in Missoula.

Montana reacts to Kirk shooting

Montana political leaders are calling the fatal shooting of conservative personality and author Charlie Kirk a tragedy and speaking out against violence, especially on a college campus.

Kirk, a frequent visitor to Montana, was gunned down during a rally at Utah Valley University in Orem yesterday, dying shortly after being hit with a single gunshot wound, apparently fired some distance from the rally stage.

Governor Gianforte posted on Facebook that he had "known Charlie since he was a teenager" and praised him for getting "young people involved in government", adding that "political violence has no place in America."

Senator Tim Sheehy called Kirk's death "heartbreaking news", while Senator Daines praised him as a "friend, a loving husband, a father, and a fearless leader."

University of Montana President Seth Bodnar also denounced the violence, saying it's a "betrayal of the very ideals" colleges are meant to uphold, urging the UM campus to commit to "respectful dialogue."

Kirk had been scheduled to stop at MSU in Bozeman in early October.

Montana's #1 airline

New statistics from the Montana Department of Transportation show that, while some air carriers have been grabbing more market share in 2025, United Airlines continues to be the dominant operator, with 30% market share through July. That's followed closely by Delta with 26%, followed by Alaska Airlines, and then American.

Bozeman continues to be the busiest airport, with 804,000 passengers through July, followed by Kalispell with 310,000, then Missoula and Billings, with Great Falls rounding out the top 5.

Man killed in Mineral County was in the middle of I-90

Montana Highway Patrol is now saying the pedestrian who was killed on I-90 in Mineral County earlier this week was right in the middle of the freeway.

Troopers say the 70-year-old Spokane died when he was struck by an oncoming SUV in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Haugen Tuesday morning. The New York driver of the Toyota wasn't injured.

Two Medicine area to close

Glacier National Park managers say everything is set for the upcoming closure of the Two Medicine Road for the replacement of a deep culvert, starting October 1st. The work is part of a two-year rehabilitation in the valley in the southeast corner of the park that will last into 2027.

The road may or may not reopen for vehicle access, or just non-motorized access in November, depending on the weather conditions.

🚜 The road will also have to be closed next spring and fall for utility replacements.

State will comply with sex ed changes

Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services is saying it will comply with an order from the Trump Administration to remove all "gender ideology" in sex education programs that are being paid for with federal funds.

The Daily Montanan reports the state has 60 days to remove the flagged content, or stand to lose over half a million dollars. But a DPHHS spokesman says the agency will comply.
