There have been a lot of social media stories claiming that all of our major planets in the Solar System will align this weekend, and more specifically on Saturday, January 25. You may not want to believe everything you read. According to Earthsky.org, there will be an alignment of six planets, but that is something that happens frequently.
The good news this is that we may have excellent viewing of the planets this weekend, especially if the weather forecast holds for most of Montana. According to the NOAA forecast most, of the state will see clear to partly-cloudy skies on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Bigger Planets Can be Seen In Montana
The bigger planets will be visible with the naked eye, like Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus.
The smaller planets, Uranus and Neptune will be visible with binoculars or telescopes.
Looking ahead to February, there will be another celestial event taking place. The first quarter moon will be moving in front of the Pleiades star cluster after midnight on Thursday, February 6. This will be visible in Montana, as always, if the weather cooperates.
