It’s not every day that I get a chance to go out and eat in a fine dining establishment. When I do, it's normally associated with a special occasion.

Recently, my wife and I celebrated our anniversary, and we wanted to go out to eat to celebrate. This time, when deciding where to eat, we wanted to go somewhere we haven’t been before.

We always appreciate The Keep, Brasserie Porte Rouge, Pangea, and 1889 Missoula when we want to treat ourselves to something fancy. This time around we wanted to try something new.

My wife suggested The Stables. This was new to me. The Stables is located at 227 W. Main Street next to Cranky Sam’s and just down the block from Biga Pizza. We were able to get a reservation, and we went to dinner.

What Makes The Menu Stand Out

The Stables describes itself as a wine and spirit restaurant. If you are a wine lover, they will have you covered with over 100 wine options. They also have a full bar with signature cocktails. If you prefer not to have alcohol, you can get some of their signature drinks alcohol-free. I didn't see beer choices on the menu, and I forgot to ask our server if they had beer options. According to their website they do offer craft beer.

Why Reservations Matter at The Stables

The Stables isn’t a very big restaurant, so the reservations do fill up fast. There is seating outside, but I am sure that is seasonal. The food was very good. The service was excellent. On the way out the door, I asked the host how long they had been open. It’s been almost a year.

For me, The Stables is a hidden gem, since I just found out about them recently. Hopefully, we will find a reason to be back for something other than a special occasion.
