One of the biggest food-centric holidays is coming up this month. Thanksgiving is a time when families and friends gather and give thanks. One thing people shouldn’t have to worry about is putting food on the table.

Why Food Insecurity Rises During the Holidays in Missoula

However, many worry about this at this time of year. The radio station helps out every year with the Z100 Annual Guerrilla Turkey Drive. We will be kicking it off for the 31st year on Monday, November 17.

Bob Wire’s Unique House Concert Incentive

This year, in particular, we have seen many people reach out and ask what they can do to help. There are many ways to help. For example, local musician Bob Wire is offering his gift of music as an incentive for people to donate.

I spoke with Bob Wire about helping out the community.

So I thought, this is a good way to use whatever capital I've built up in Missoula this way to maybe, you know, offer just a show at people's house, do a house concert. If somebody donates $500, gets a bunch of their friends together, pools $500. Give that to the food bank, get a receipt, get a picture of their receipt and send it to me at bobwiremusic@gmail.com, from that, we will arrange a house concert.

Bob Wire will be offering the shows for donations until his calendar fills up or until Thanksgiving, whichever comes first. If a business is willing to donate $1000 to the Missoula Food Bank, he is willing to put on a corporate show.

He went on to say:

More people are needing these services and, you know, all we can do is respond... just focus on what's directly around you and help your neighbors and your own community.

For those who want to get into the holiday spirit, Bob Wire and Chip Whitson have teamed up for a couple of holiday-themed albums. In 2011 they released “Off White Christmas”, and in 2022 they released “Exile on 34th Street”. They are hilarious albums. One of my personal favorite songs is “The Great Christmas Decoration Tragedy of 1981”.

Bob Wire’s music is available on all streaming platforms. Support your local musicians as they give back to our community.
