Everyone is trying to save money these days. According to reports, Montana is officially in a recession, and we have all seen prices increase on goods and services. This weekend there’s an event that can help you save some money on your winter activities.

Why the S.O.S. Fair Matters for Missoula

It’s time for the annual S.O.S. Fair (Safety on Skis), brought to you by the Snowbowl Ski Patrol this weekend at the Missoula Fairgrounds. It’s a chance for people to buy and sell used winter equipment. Over the years, the fair has expanded. What started out as a ski equipment swap in 1968 has become a big winter equipment sale and a fundraiser for the ski patrol.

The list of items that can be sold is everything from skis, boots, and snowboards, to helmets, goggles, even sleeping bags. For hockey players, the fair will only accept hockey skates; they don’t accept other hockey equipment.

Saving on Skiing and Snowboarding Gear

Skiing and snowboarding are some of the most expensive hobbies around and if you can save some money on equipment that is a good thing. Especially if you have kids that have outgrown their current equipment. The S.O.S. Fair is your chance to keep up with growing skiers and boarders while saving money.

Equipment drop off is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale is Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the commercial building at the Missoula Fairgrounds.

Organizers of the event want to remind people that it’s an “opportunity to buy or swap equipment that is no longer a use to you, but are in good enough shape to help someone else.”
