Forgotten Montana Made Movie Celebrating 20 Years
There have been many movies and TV shows that have been filmed in Montana over the years. There have been the popular and blockbuster movies, like A River Runs Through It, and Dances With Wolves. There have also been a lot of movies that have been filmed in Montana that didn't do so well at the box office. Montana also has the distinction of having one of the "worst movies ever made", Heaven's Gate, filmed in our backyard. There also have been movies that have been claimed to be set in Montana, but have barely been filmed here.
Another Under the Radar Montana Filmed Movie
Every once in a while I will happen to catch a movie or a trailer for a movie that was filmed in Montana, that I haven't seen or I have completely forgotten about. Not to say that I have seen every movie ever made in Montana, but I have seen most of them.
Northfork was Filmed in Montana
Recently the movie "Northfork" was brought to my attention. It was filmed in Montana. The movie turns 20 years old this year and I have not seen it or had heard anything about it when it was released two decades ago. The movie has some big names in it James Woods, Anthony Edwards, Nick Nolte, Daryl Hanna and more. It was directed by Michael Polish and written by Michael and Mark Polish.
The Northfork Plot
According to Wikipedia, the film's narrative consists of several interwoven subplots taking place in the town of Northfork, Montana circa 1955. A new dam is being built that will flood the valley of Northfork, and the town is in the midst of an evacuation. The narratives focus on several individuals who, for one reason or another, have yet to evacuate. The film was shot in 24 days. Montana locations included, Fort Peck, Chouteau, Great Falls, Fort Peck Dam, and Augusta.
This movie has officially been added to my list of movies to watch that have been filmed in Montana.
