Important Safety Warning About Fire Extinguishing Balls Available in Montana
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning consumers about a product with a risk of burns, smoke inhalation and even the possibility of death. The products are the Elilde fire extinguishing balls that are sold online and in Walmart stores across Montana.
This is Not a Recall At this Time
They are designed to be convenient fire extinguishers that can be used in vehicles or boats, houses or businesses. According to the report from the CPSC, they can fail to extinguish a fire, which could lead to injuries, burns or even death.
CPSC is Issuing a Warning
The CPSC has evaluated the products and found that they can fail to "effectively disperse fire retardant chemicals and fail to extinguish a fire." There are three models that the warning covers. The ELB01, ELB02-1 are red plastic balls with a diameter of 4 to 6 inches and weigh either 1.5 or 3 pounds. The ELB02-2 is a blue plastic ball with a diameter of 4 inches and weighs 1.5 pounds.
At this time the CPSC is urging consumers not to purchase or sell these products. They are also reporting that "Elide Fire USA has not agreed to recall these fire extinguishing balls or offer any remedy to consumers."
The Recommendation Is to Dispose of This Product
If you have one of these products and you choose to dispose of them, which is the recommendation, you will need to either contact your local fire department or a hazardous waste facility to dispose of them properly.
