This time of year it's great to be a sports fan. Major League Baseball is in season, it's playoff time for the NBA and the NHL and this last weekend was the NFL Draft. This year, in particular, it's great to be a Montana sports fan.

Congratulations are in order to the Montana football players who were drafted in the NFL Draft this last weekend.

Tommy Mellott, Butte High Graduate and MSU alum, got drafted in the 6th round and is going to be a Las Vegas Raider.

Junior Bergen, a Billings Senior Graduate and U of M alum, got drafted in the 7th round and will be a part of the San Francisco 49ers.

With so much focus on the NFL Draft there was a Montana-born athlete who did something that we don't think any other Montana-born athlete has done.

The Ottawa Senators are playing the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Jake Sanderson is a defenseman for the Ottawa Senators and was born in Whitefish, Montana.

Saturday night Sanderson scored the overtime, game-winning goal for the Ottawa Senators. As far as I know there hasn't been another Montana-born hockey player who has accomplished that.

The Senators are down in the series 3-1. Toronto can move on to the next round with a win against Ottawa. If the Senators only win that one game in the series it was because of the goal from Sanderson and that is pretty cool.
