One of the most beloved organizations in Missoula will host a fundraiser for the Missoula YWCA.

As a child in Missoula, I attended Hellgate Elementary School. At that age, one of my favorite parts of school was the general music lessons, largely because of our wonderful music teacher, Candy Johnson. As a teacher, Candy had all the wit and pizazz of Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus books. But her talent and professionalism shined too, and not long after I moved on to middle school, she was promoted to principal. I was also grateful to be one of her piano students.

As one of her students, I was also well aware of a wonderful singing group she is part of, the Sweet Adelines. Candy has been a member of the Five Valley Chorus for 50 years and has been directing since 1983 and has since earned the distinction of Master Director.

The Five Valley Chorus has been delighting Missoula in so many ways. After a brief hiatus due to the pandemic, the group is performing live again and they have an impressive event coming up at the end of June.

Harmony Explosion 2024 in Missoula Montana

Four choruses from the region will come to Missoula for an afternoon of four-part harmony singing, and profit from the show will benefit Missoula's YWCA.

Singers from Coeur d'Alene, Bozeman, Helena, and Missoula will perform at the Missoula Community Theater on June 29th at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors and students. Along with the Missoula Sweet Adeline chorus, a quartet from Frenchtown called the "Shirley Tempos" will perform. It should be a wonderful afternoon for a good cause.
