Special Olympics Athlete Stuns Jelly Roll in Montana

One of Montana's biggest concerts of the summer wasn't just memorable because of the music.

The recent Jelly Roll and Post Malone show at Washington-Grizzly Stadium brought more than 25,000 people together, and ever since the concert, stories have continued to surface. Most of what I've seen online has been positive about the show.

Concerts are full of memorable moments. Fans bring signs, gifts, and keepsakes hoping to catch an artist's attention. (There was even a video making the rounds of a kid trying to give Post Malone a brownie.)

A Gesture of Heart: Jon Hargett’s Gold Medal

But one gesture stood above the rest.

Special Olympics athlete Jon Hargett made the decision to give Jelly Roll something incredibly meaningful: his Special Olympics gold medal.

That hit me a little differently.

I've had the privilege of emceeing the Special Olympics Valley Games in Missoula for the past several years, as well as the annual Polar Plunge. I've also hosted the closing ceremonies for the Montana State Summer Games multiple times. Through those events, I've made some lifelong friends, so seeing this moment really meant something to me.

Giving away a gold medal isn't like handing someone a T-shirt. It's something that's earned through hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

Jelly Roll's Heartfelt Reaction

Jelly Roll was visibly moved by the gift.

In a video shared after the moment, he thanked Jon Hargett and said it was one of the coolest gifts he's ever received. He also said he plans to wear the gold medal for the rest of his tour. The video is not safe for work due to the language.

When more than 25,000 people gather for one event, everyone leaves with a different story.
