An Open Letter To Overnight Road Construction Workers
Dear Overnight Road Construction Workers,
It can't be easy to do what you do on a normal day, but doing your work in the dead of night must be that much more difficult. The work needs to be done, and the fact that you are doing it at night to help the every day commuter is commendable.
The construction being done on Brooks Street around the Reserve Street intersection can't be easy with the amount of traffic that travels through that area on a daily basis. The commuters from the Bitterroot Valley that work in Missoula and now with school back in session with school busses full of kids, having you work at night only helps everyone have a better experience on the road.
My dark morning commute, for the past few decades, has been a relatively easy one. I normally only have to watch out for deer or an occasional raccoon or fox crossing the road. There's typically very little traffic.
This morning on my way to work I saw your crew out there working on the road with flood lights, lighting up your work area. I was appreciative of the work you were all doing. Working overnights is not an easy thing to do. I worked an overnight shift for almost five years and it wasn't easy.
There are positives to doing the work at night. The lack of traffic can only be a good thing for your work. Also having it be cooler at night has got to help with the job. So thank you all for doing what you do. I know not every road construction job in Montana is going to be done at night, but for those that are on the night crews that work through the night, thank you again for all you do.
Sincerely,
Chris Wolfe
