Montana’s Most Searched Flower Goes By A Name You Won’t Recognize
With it being fair week, one of my favorite exhibits to visit is the flower buildling. Last year, I even had the pleasure of seeing a hummingbird moth among the entries.
What I love about this exhibit is seeing the diversity of specimens. You'll find common varieties, native flowers, and unique varieties that take a true green thumb.
Montana, How Does Your Garden Grow?
Any gardener looks to other gardeners for ideas, and living in Montana, it's easy to see which flowers grow best in our climate. Just by looking at flower pots on front porches and hanging baskets, you could probably guess what Montana's most popular flower is.
But Montana's most searched flower is very likely one that you haven't heard of. You might have thought Montanans would be looking up some of the more common flowers. Not so. Here's an idea of what our neighboring states search most often courtesy of shaneco.com :
Idaho: Common Daisy
North Dakota: Petunia
See if you can guess what kind of flower Montanans lookup based on the name alone.
Crane's Bill
What is that?!
I'm an amateur gardener and I had no idea what this was. I'm sure the avid gardeners out there will know exactly what this is referring to, but I'm curious how many people know what this is. I bet you have one on your porch and don't know that this is its name.
Here's another name for a Crane's Bill.
Hardy Geranium
Sound more familiar? Bet it looks familiar, too.
I find it hard to believe that most Montanans would know to search "Crane's Bill" if they were looking up tips about how to care for their Geranium.
