Montana’s Power Workers Help With Hurricane Cleanup
Just after hurricane Milton hit Florida, there were over 3 million people in the state without power. Not only did the hurricane cause extensive damage, but there were reports of tornadoes that hit the area too. According to the Associated Press, there were 38 tornadoes reported that were caused by Milton.
Power crews from across the country have traveled to Florida to help with the aftermath of the storm. Power workers from Montana are helping with the effort to restore power to the affected areas. I have been in contact with an apprentice journeyman Will Nese who is one of the Montana workers who has made the trek. It took them a few days to drive there from Montana.

Nese works for Wasatch Electric, based out of Salt Lake City, but he works in Montana. Initially they were told the work in Florida could last as long as three weeks, but that will depend on the amount of work that needs to be done and how quickly and safely they can do their work. Nese's crew is working in Saratoga at the moment.
They are seeing lots of "downed trees, blown over signs, broken fences and just general debris everywhere". The crew wakes up around 6 am, they then get their job for the day and get to work until they are done. Nese messaged about the long hours over the weekend.
We're scheduled to work 16 hours a day but we're on, I think almost 40 hours straight. Only getting 3 to 4 hours of sleep a night.
The people of Florida have been very grateful for the work they workers are doing. Nese messaged:
Everyone down here is super appreciative, strangers walking by and pass us and take the time to say thank you and express their appreciation.
This past summer, Missoula and other parts of Montana got a taste of what is like to have a powerful storm that knocked power in many parts of the city. My house was without power for four days. We learned to appreciate the hard work these workers do for us. Most of the time it is behind the scenes.
Thanks to all the Montana hard workers who are working to restore the power in Florida, you are all appreciated. You can see some of the pics from Nese below, and you can see some of the pictures of the Missoula destruction we saw this last summer.
