Montana Ranks Towards the Top For Population Growth
For better or for worse, Montana is popular. It doesn't look like that is going to go away any time soon. Not only is Montana a popular destination for tourists, it is also a popular destination for people who are looking to relocate. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Montana has made the top ten list of highest population growth between 2021 and 2022. Just missing out on the top five.
The West Was One Region That Saw Population Growth
The U.S. Census Bureau doesn't take a census every year, so these numbers are based on the end of 2022. There are two regions in the United States that saw growth, that would be the West and the South. The North East and the Mid-West both saw their populations decline over the same time period.
Montana Made the Top 10
Montana was ranked as the number 6 state in the "percentage of growth" category, just missing out of the top five. The top five states with the highest "percentage of growth":
- Florida 1.9%
- Idaho 1.8%
- South Carolina 1.7%
- Texas 1.6%
- South Dakota 1.5%
When it comes to numbers the states with the biggest jump in populations, not as a percentage are:
- Texas
- Florida
- North Carolina
- Georgia
- Arizona
The U.S. Census' projections for the country are to see an overall population to begin to decrease in the second half of the century. The projections take different factors into consideration, like an aging population and a decrease in fertility rates.
Not All States Saw Populations Increase
The top states that saw the highest percentage of decline in population were:
- New York
- Illinois
- Louisiana
- West Virginia
- Hawaii
Every person who moves has their reasons and for the time being it looks like Montana, Idaho and South Dakota are popular places for people to relocate. Only time will tell if this trend will continue.
