Montanans love their pets. They take them everywhere. You see dogs in cars and trucks, they are on the trails, the rivers and the lakes. They are in stores and at almost every festival in town. When something is announced that can hurt your pet, people need to be aware.
Lots of Pet Food in Montana Is Being Recalled
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a voluntary recall of popular pet foods made by Mid America Pet Food for both dogs and cats. There is a wide variety of brands of the food that are being recalled sold in stores all through out the country and in Montana. The food has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. According to the FDA announcement:
Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
The products being recalled are included below:
Salmonella can be deadly to our four legged friends and to humans. According to the FDA there have been 7 cases of Salmonella reported by November 1st. The FDA is recommending to destroy the food in a way that children, pets, or wildlife can't access it.
There have been reports Salmonella outbreaks in Montana earlier this year related to something that can be found in backyards.
The recalled products have the use before date of 10/31/2024.
Please keep your pets safe.
