Every once in a while, my life just gets a bit overwhelming. There is work, kids, and a dog that seems to be in a medical cone more than he should be. Sometimes, I just need some comfort food.

There are places in Missoula that offer comfort food for me. The places aren't necessarily gourmet. A "foodie" would probably turn their nose up at them, but that isn't what comfort food is about. It's about how the food or restaurant makes you feel.

What Is Comfort Food to Missoula Locals?

We were interested in finding out what food and restaurants Missoulians look to for their comfort food.

As always when we ask a question like this we got lots of answers, and not all of them were serious. Beer was big response for comfort food. Some restaurants mentioned are no longer around. A couple people mentioned the 4B's tomato soup. We just recently saw them close their doors in Missoula for good.

For us, it was great to see so many places mentioned that have been around for decades that are still in business and serving up comfort food after all these years. There are, of course, newcomers to the comfort food game, and it's good to see them being mentioned.

When I was in high school in Missoula, I lived on Hoagieville cheese fries and cherry Coca-Cola. Those cheese fries are still a comfort food for me after all these decades. I don't eat them as often as I used to, but when I need them, they are there.
