Montana Shoppers, This Site Is a Treasure Trove of Rare Possibilities
Did you see the video from Zion National Park about the Zion Shuttle buses for sale?
You have to love the National Park system because they frequently come up with hilarious and creative content like the video above. Being in radio, I'm partial to the "turn it into a sound booth" idea.
I was a bit too late in finding the video though, because the auction has already ended. But the good news is they say there will be another round of buses up for auction soon.
But there's more good news, too. There's so much more you can buy.
General Services Administration Auctions
I was today years old when I learned that the government basically has a garage sale website where some of the stuff that National Parks or even just ranger stations don't use anymore is up for auction. It looks like some items show up on this list from other places, too, (like the IRS) because it's pretty unlikely when you see a Porsche up for auction that I used to belong to a National Park.
I searched for stuff for sale in Montana and found some interesting items.
- A Sony Cybershot Digital Camera has a current bid of $107. The listing says the camera is at the Ranger Station in Townsend, Montana. You'll have to pay attention to the description though because it's located at the Ranger Station and some facilities require a ReaID for access.
- A 2003 Caterpillar 236 B Skidsteer has a current bid of $20,085 and the auction closes on 4/26/24. This one is located in Stevensville at the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge. It also mentions that the reserve has not been met on this one.
This is the kind of website you may want to keep an eye on, not only because more of the Zion shuttle buses will be available (and what a great opportunity to upcycle one of them into an RV) but there are likely interesting and useful things that pop up on the site from time to time.
