"A little bit of beer is divine medicine."- Paracelsus, a Greek physician

Montana has had a long relationship with beer, and it looks like that isn't going to be slowing down anytime soon. Montana State University and the University of Montana are both offering classes on brewing beer, ensuring new generations of brewers will learn what makes a great beer.

There are some that may say Montana is spoiled with how many great beers we have to choose from. One of Montana's breweries has recently teamed up with Jeff Ament, of Pearl Jam fame, to release their second limited edition beer, to help fund Montana's skate parks.

When it comes to the number of craft breweries in the state, we have a lot of choices. More than other states. Proving that point is VinePair, who reports that, per-capita Montana ranks as one of the highest states for the amount of craft breweries. We are number three, following, Vermont and Maine. Montana has 12.3 breweries for every 100,000 people, with 106 different craft-breweries.

These numbers may have already changed a bit over the last year, as more breweries continue to get started in Montana. Not only do we have quite a few breweries, but have some high quality breweries that are being recognized on a global scale.

It does seem like we are spoiled in the amount of quality breweries we have to choose from here in Montana. Please enjoy responsibly and never drink and drive. If you are plan to indulge in a Montana-made beer, always designate a driver.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
