Influential Montanan Named to ‘Time100 Next’ List
You may be familiar with the "Time100" and the "Person of the Year." Both initiatives are efforts by the magazine to draw attention to those people who are creating the greatest impact in the world.
Their newest initiative, "TIME100 Next" which originated in 2019, is aimed at the future, to "[show] what is possible as well as what society’s future and future leaders will look like." The list is broken down into subcategories:
- Artists
- Phenoms
- Innovators
- Leaders
- Advocates
In this year's list, an influential Montanan has been recognized for her leadership.
Representative Zooey Zephyer, House District 100
Representative Zooey Zephyr's Influence in Montana and Across the Country
During Montana's Legislative Session, Zooey Zephyr gave an impassioned speech that led to Speaker Matt Regier refusing to let her speak, even though she hadn't been censured.
In what has become an iconic image, Zooey Zephyr held a microphone up to the gallery to amplify the voices of protesters yelling, "Let her speak!" which became a rallying cry.
Zephyr was sanctioned and barred "from the House floor, gallery, and antechamber until the adjournment of the 2023 session..." according to Wikipedia.
After the fallout during the Montana Legislative Session, Zooey Zephyr became a household name. In the ensuing months, she traveled the country lending her voice to supporting rights for the LGBTQ community.
...including a visit to Congress.
