There has been some activity in Yellowstone National Park. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), there is a chance that Yellowstone could see an eruption in the first few weeks of 2025. Specifically they are monitoring activity at Steamboat Geyser. There have been minor eruptions in December and, according to their reports, this could lead to a "'major eruption' may occur during the first few weeks of 2025".

The USGS also noted that Yellowstone National Park experienced 82 earthquakes in the region in December alone. The biggest one came on December 15th with a 2.7 magnitude. The seismic activity in the Yellowstone National Park area is monitored by University of Utah Seismic Stations.

While Steamboat Geyser remains the primary focus of monitoring efforts, researchers emphasize that volcanic activity is inherently unpredictable. Even with these indicators, the possibility of a significant eruption is still uncertain. The recent seismic activity serves as a reminder of the dynamic forces at work beneath Yellowstone’s surface. For now, officials urge caution while continuing to study the area closely. Yellowstone's unique geothermal features attract millions of visitors annually, making it all the more important to understand and prepare for potential geological events. As 2025 begins, we will all be watching to see what unfolds in this iconic and volatile region.
