If you are in need of emergency assistance in Missoula County, dialing 9-1-1 is the traditional way to get the help you need. There is now another option available. If you are in need of assistance and not able to speak with an operator, you can text 9-1-1 for help. In Missoula County texting 9-1-1 is available. 

Calling 9-1-1 in Missoula County Is Preferred, But Not Always Available

The preferred method of getting a hold of help in an emergency would be calling 9-1-1, and speaking with a dispatcher, but if you can't speak you should know that a text is an option now too. According to the Missoula County, Montana- Government Facebook page there are reasons that a text can work too.  

  • If someone is deaf, hard of hearing, or has a speech disability 
  • The caller is unable to speak due to a medical condition or other issue 
  • When speaking out loud would put the caller in danger, such as during a home invasion, an abduction, a domestic violence incident or an active-shooter scenario.
