The Montana skies are about to light up next week, even more than they regularly do. Right now the forecast may be perfect for a spectacular light show.

Why Clear Skies Matter for Viewing

Over the next couple days, there's a very good chance of most of Montana seeing some Northern Lights, that is if it clears up. According to NOAA, the forecast is strong. The lights may be seen as far south as Wyoming and South Dakota.

This Saturday is also a full moon, this time of year it is the Sturgeon Moon. According to Space.com, the moon will reach peak fullness at 1:55 a.m. Mountain Time.

The Perseid Meteor Shower: What to Expect

Next week will be some peak Perseid Meteor Shower viewing with as many as 100-150 meteors per hour. There are over 1,000 meteors projected to be witnessed between August 12-13, according to the American Meteor Society.

Like with any celestial event in Montana weather plays a crucial role on how much we will be able to see. Right now the forecast for next week looks like it will make for optimal viewing conditions with no clouds forecast—at least for now.
