Montana continues to make lists. We are one of the best places to visit. We have two of the best national parks in the country. Which may be on track to set records again this year.

Every once in a while, Montana makes a list of places that are a bit unique.

Montana is one of the best places to be in the case of a UFO invasion, or if a zombie apocalypse breaks out.

There are a lot of isolated places in Montana, and we don’t have a huge population, so it would make sense that we would be a good place to hide out or survive in some cases.

One specific area of Montana has made an interesting list. It is something straight out of a futuristic movie.

According to their list, Montana’s Bitterroot Valley is one of the best places to be in the event that society ever does break down.

What Makes a Great Survival Location?

We Travel, We Bond looked at things like “self-reliant communities”, access to fresh water, and landscapes that support security and food production.

Why Bitterroot Valley Ranks Highest

Some of the reasons they give for choosing the Bitterroot Valley is the “defensible terrain that’s difficult to approach without being noticed.”

The Bitterroot Valley is also known for growing food, raising animals, and their community spirit. There are also people who live there that are self-sufficient and wouldn’t have a problem living off-grid if they needed to.

Our neighbors in Idaho have two locations that also made the list. Both Sandpoint and Driggs are good places to be if society collapses.
