Montana is one of the best places to live. There are people who have known this for generations, and then there are people who are just finding out about it recently. If I were to sit and list all of the positive things about Montana it would take me days to list it all.

For a while, back in the day, it felt like it was kind of a secret about how great it is to live in Montana. When things are great, it can't stay secret for long. Montana has seen an influx of people moving here, but that looks to be slowing according to some reports.

Montana Makes the Top Twenty

Just when things start to slow down, Wallet Hub has come out with their "Best States to Live in (2024)". Most of us already know this, but Montana ranks high when it comes to being one of the best states to live in. Montana is ranked as the 15th best state to live in.

Other States in the West are Ranked High Too

Wallet Hub looked at "51 key factors in livability" across the 50 states. Other states in the west rank in the top twenty.

  • Utah is ranked 4
  • Idaho is ranked 6
  • Wyoming is ranked 10
  • North Dakota is 17
  • South Dakota is 18

Massachusetts is the top-ranked state, followed by Florida. There have been reports that both of the Carolinas and Florida are seeing the biggest increase in population these days. According to Wallet Hub, North Carolina is ranked 23 and South Carolina is ranked 43.

Montana ranked the highest in the economy category, coming in at number 3. The lowest ranking came in the safety category coming in at number 36. One metric where Montana stood out is the percentage of people over 25 with a high school diploma, Montana is ranked number one. For the record according to Wallet Hub, Louisiana comes in last on their list.
