But when it comes to how much we gamble and how easy it is to gamble in Montana, it isn't all fun and games.

According to WalletHub, Montana has a serious gambling problem. When it comes to the most "gambling-addicted" states, Montana comes in at number three on the list, only behind Nevada and South Dakota.

According to their report, almost 2.5% of Montana's population has a gambling disorder, one of the highest percentages in the country.

Another issue with gambling in Montana is the access to machines. We have a large number of gaming machines. We have access to them in retail and convenience stores; even some of our airports have them.

Growing up in Montana, I have been around the machines for most of my life, so I don't notice how many we really have.

When friends or family visit from out of state they are almost always amazed at how many casinos they see.

Here are some of Montana's concerning rankings:

  • Tied for 1 in gaming machines per capita
  • 1 in legality of sports gambling
  • 5 in casinos per capita
  • 7 in percentage of adults with gambling disorders

According to WalletHub reports, it's not easy for Montanans who have a gambling problem to overcome it. Montana doesn't have gambling counselors, and "doesn't require businesses to train their employees on disordered or problem gambling."
