The conversation about train travel in Montana continues. There is movement to expanding passenger travel across the state in the future. The U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Division, and Amtrak are looking at possible plans to expand in Montana.

One of my first train rides ever was the Copper King Express which traveled between Butte and Anaconda, Montana. It was a cool experience and I learned a lot about the railroad and the history of both towns. That Copper King Express doesn't operate anymore, the last tickets were sold in 2009, but that doesn't mean you can't take another train adventure in Montana.

Montana Dinner Train

The Montana Dinner Train, aboard the Charlie Russell Chew Choo, is a very popular experience. This adventure is so popular, according to their website,  the rides are sold out for the 2024 season. The train boards outside of Lewistown for the "56 mile round trip" that takes 4 1/2 hours, and includes a prime rib dinner, live music and more. The Montana Dinner Train has been operating for 30 years. The summer train rides may be sold out for 2024, but that doesn't mean you won't be able to enjoy a Christmas experience this winter.

North Pole Adventure

The Montana Dinner Train also offers a "North Pole Adventure" which includes cocoa, cookies, stories, games and possibly a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Tickets for these rides will go on sale October 1st at 8am, mark that on your calendar, these tickets may go fast.
