Montanans show their love for animals in many ways. We are a state that ranks high for our love of animals. We don't just respect our pets, we show a lot of respect for other animals in our state.

But when it comes to our pets, our friends, we have an extra bond. How often do you see cars or trucks on the road with an animal head sticking out of the window? It happens a lot. Just go to an outdoor brew fest and you will see dogs attending as well.

Montana brings in dogs from all over the country for people who are looking for a companion. Recently there have been some dogs that have made their way to Montana from Texas.

The Texas floods made having pets difficult for some people, so the Thompson River Animal Care Shelter has taken in dogs from kill shelters in Texas, brought them up to Montana to find them homes.

When it comes time to get that dog, choosing a name can be a big decision. When we got our dog there was a lot of input from the entire family. We had a meeting, there was a whiteboard with name ideas, and plenty of discussion. For the record we settled on Bennie.   

I always get a kick out of dogs that have human names. When I meet a dog named Harold, it always makes me smile.
