Message on Missoula Car Makes a Very Interesting Request
It used to be that Montana was last to hop on just about any trend. I remember growing up in Missoula and being shocked every time I looked up a business and they didn't have a website, and then later that they weren't on social media.
Thanks to the ubiquity of social media and the internet, trends catch on pretty fast nowadays, even in Montana.
The Venmo/Cash App Trend
One of the recent trends (and by recent I mean the last two years...the Washington Post wrote about it in 2021) is to put the information for your Venmo or Cash App handle on the back of your car and ask for money.
It was a popular tactic for road trips, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and even spring break trips. Well, now it looks like it's being used for more practical reasons.
Seen in Missoula
Driving around in Missoula I saw this car on the side of the road. The window in the back says "College Bound: Anything Helps" and then had a Venmo handle and a "Go Griz" for good measure.
What Do You Think About This Strategy?
On the one hand, if this person is really trying to go to college and needs help covering expenses, and somebody wants to help them pay for it, great. But on the other hand, it would be really easy to write a message like that and put up a Venmo handle, and then the handle doesn't even belong to a college student.
If you do see this car driving around Missoula, would you take the risk and give them money through Venmo?
