Popular Free Missoula Family Event Has Some Changes This Year
One of my favorite family friendly events in Missoula has some changes coming this year. The Watson Children's Shelter's Bike for Shelter event this year is coming up on Saturday from 11am-2pm. The big change this year is there won't be any sanctioned races this year. There will still be tons of family friendly activities.
The Event Changes Will Just be Temporary
This change in the event is only temporary. We spoke with Mark Roberts and Angie Doucette from the Bike for Shelter about the changes. Here is what they said.
One of the big changes this year is there is no sanctioned bike race. We used to do a 1 mile fun, a 5 mile, 10 mile and 20 mile race. This year it changed a little bit. We went in to get our permits at that time they weren't sure about the timing of the McClay bridge project, so our permits weren't approved.
There Will Still Be Lots of Fun Missoula
So this will just be a temporary change this year, but it won't stop the fun. They are encouraging people to ride their bikes to the event. Angie spoke about what is being planned:
We will have "bike rodeo", which is a fun obstacle course. If you complete it, you get a medal... It's really just meant to have fun. A lot of times we are looking for places to take our kids and this is a free, fun, family event. There are yard games, and face painting and colored hair spray, and snow-cones and cotton candy. What more could you ask for?
Volunteers are Needed for This Missoula Event
There will be bouncy houses too. Watson Children's Shelter Bike for Shelter is also looking for volunteers to help out with the event. If you would like to volunteer for the event you can register online. This is a free event that will let kids be kids. So grab your bikes and helmets and make plans to attend Bike for Shelter.
