Summer in Montana doesn't just mean sunshine and spending time at the lakes, its also road construction season. There is a major project scheduled for the beginning of next week that is going to have a big impact on the Southside of town.

The City of Missoula Public Works and Mobility department has announced plans to close the intersection of Lower Miller Creek Road and Highway 93, beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23 and should be finished by the end of the day on Tuesday, June 24.

Lower Miller Creek and Highway 93 Construction

The project is going to be removing the railroad tracks and signals that are no longer in use. The tracks are part of the former Bitterroot Spur line. According to the city, the tracks create a low spot in the road, which creates a perpetual pothole.

Detours will be in place for those two days around the intersection. The detours will take drivers through the Briggs, Gharrett, Reserve, and 39th Streets. Shoppers will still have access to the Walmart Supercenter located at 4000 U.S. Highway 93.

⬇️Keep Scrolling for Missoula's Most Frustrating Intersections⬇️

With the expansion of the Upper Miller Creek area, the intersection of Highway 93 and Lower Miller Creek has become a very busy intersection in Missoula. Commuters should expect delays and be aware that your route will be different for at least those two days.

With the removal of the tracks, there will also be repaving of the road. There is no talk about including a designated turn signal on the Lower Miller Creek Road side, which would also help commuters. On a normal day, that intersection can be frustrating for some commuters.

For a short time, there will be a disruption in the commute, but in the long run the road will be smoother and will hopefully need less repairs in the future. See below for a map of the affected area.
