The winter holiday season in Montana is a special time. Not just for the holidays and all that comes with them, it’s also concert announcement season. Bands start announcing their tours for the upcoming year, which is always exciting.

It’s even more exciting to find out which bands will be making their way to Montana. Being able to see your favorite bands in our own backyard, without having to travel out of state is bonus.

There have already been some big announcements of tours that will be heading our way. The Zootown Music Festival has announced its lineups for the three days in Missoula in June. Under the Big Sky, in Whitefish, has announced their acts for 2026. The Kettlehouse Amphitheater, in Bonner, has also released a handful of artists that are scheduled to appear this year.

When it comes to enjoying live music, it’s not always just the bands, sometimes it’s the venue that makes the experience worth it.

Why Venue Atmosphere Matters for Live Music

There is one venue in Montana that stands out above the rest. According to Love Exploring, which rated the best music venue in each state, the Kettlehouse Amphitheater is the best venue for live music in Montana.

I haven’t been to every live music venue in Montana. I still haven't seen a show in Billings, but I have seen shows at almost every music venue in Missoula. I can’t argue with the Kettlehouse listed at the top.

What Sets the Kettlehouse Amphitheater Apart

The venue isn’t too big, so the shows feel intimate. The river running behind the venue is awesome. I have heard soundchecks while floating the river and have known people who have taken a break during a float to listen to the tunes.  There have even been reports of bears on the mountains who took some time to enjoy the music.
