On June 26, 2022, Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and a UN Messenger of Peace, will speak at the University of Montana. According to UM strategic communications director Dave Kuntz, Goodall’s talk is part of UM’s President’s Lecture Series.

“We are really excited to announce that Dr. Jane Goodall, who is famous for her chimpanzee research, is going to be coming to the University this coming Sunday at 6:00 p.m. to do a public lecture on the Oval,” Kuntz said. “This is an event that is free and open to the public. We are really excited to host this important conversation.”

Kuntz said Goodall’s lecture, “Hope Through Action,” will take place in person, but will also be available virtually for those who can’t attend.

“There will be 500 chairs that the University is going to make available to the public that is going to be underneath a big circus tent,” Kuntz said. “It will be a first-come, first-serve basis. We also recommend bringing your own chairs. It is going to be festival-style seating where you can find your spot on the Oval that fits you best. You’ll be able to enjoy a night listening to Dr. Goodall and some of the folks who will be speaking alongside her.”

Kuntz said the event is co-sponsored by UM’s Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center and the International Wildlife Film Festival.

“She is going to be participating in the International Wildlife Film Festival,” Kuntz said. “We are really lucky to have her. I think this really communicates the value of having a flagship university in a community like Missoula to be able to bring speakers of this regard into town so folks can learn a little bit more about their research and their impact on society.”

Kuntz mentioned that the UM’s President’s Lecture Series was created to provide citizens of Montana opportunities to gather, learn, and discuss the ideas and issues that animate our communities. More information about the event, including how to live stream the lecture, is available here.
