Honk the Air Horn! Montana Celebrates Truckers Appreciation Week!
Better late than never! I didn’t want to miss mentioning that we just celebrated National Truck Drivers Appreciation Week. It was September 11th - 17th, but technically I've celebrated almost every day with the products I use, the fuel I need to get to work, and just about everything else.
If I hadn’t seen a post from the Montana Trucking Association about an appreciation “Thank You” they had for Truckers who came through the Laurel and Haugan scales on Wednesday the 14th. The photos on Facebook where I first learned about all this were great. They handed out over 925 lunches to passing Road Warriors for National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
Montana is a big state and as I mention this celebration after the fact, drivers go about this very important job at times without a lot of public fanfare. One of my sons drove for a living and it was fulfilling and challenging as well. The industry is always growing and looking for young people to consider it as an option. If you’ve ever heard Mike Rowe from Discovery TV’s Dirty Jobs fame talk, you’ll hear him boast about good-paying work in these fields.
The Montana Trucking Association I mentioned earlier, has a scholarship available to Montana students for the coming year. Find out about that. There are a number of grants and funds available with a little looking around the web in Montana.
Give a Trucker a nod of thanks - even if it’s not officially the right week. I’m sure they’ll still appreciate it.
