Recall: Popular Breakfast Food Sold at Walmart and Targets in Montana
Coming on the heels of the massive pre-cooked meat recall that affected millions of pounds of meat is another recall, this time for a popular breakfast food item.
TreeHouse Foods has issued a voluntary recall of many frozen waffle brands. The FDA has knowledge of this recall. TreeHouse Foods makes waffles for multiple brand names that are sold in grocery, Target and Walmart stores across the U.S. and in Montana.
Some of the brand names included in the recall are Kodiak Cakes, Great Value, and Western Family frozen waffles. The reason for the recall is possible Listeria contamination. According to their press release the items have been distributed throughout the United States and Canada.
Consumers are encouraged to check their freezers for the affected UPC codes. If you have some of the recalled waffles you can return them to the store where they were purchased, or properly dispose of them. When disposing of them, please keep them away from children or animals. Here are a few of the UPCs being recalled.
Listeria monocytogenes can sometimes cause "serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail, or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems." No reports of illness have been reported at the time of this writing. The issue was discovered through testing at the manufacturing facility.
There are multiple different name brands of waffles as par of the recall, for a full list of brands you can check them out here. If you have any questions you can contact TreeHouse foods at 800-596-2903, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (CST).
