Pizza is one of those comfort foods that never really lets you down. When you want something easy, filling, and consistently good, it’s hard to beat a solid pizza pie. I’m a pretty simple pizza guy. I’m not loading it up with a dozen toppings or trying some wild combination. Just give me a good classic pizza done right, and I’m happy.

We’ve been lucky to have some fantastic spots around the state. Sometimes, the best pizza isn’t always in the biggest cities or the places getting all the attention. Sometimes you have to go a little off the beaten path to find that hidden gem locals have quietly loved for years.

In Missoula, Biga Pizza has earned plenty of recognition and is often mentioned as one of the best pizza spots in Montana. What about the true hole-in-the-wall pizza places? The ones that don’t always make the big travel lists but still serve incredible pies?

According to The Takeout, Montana’s best hole-in-the-wall pizza place isn’t in Missoula, Billings, or Bozeman. Their pick is Engine Room Pizza in Livingston. The restaurant was started by restaurateur Karen Henderson, who has run successful restaurants and won a season of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, according to the website.

I’ll admit, I haven’t had the chance to stop in there yet myself, but from everything I’ve seen, it looks outstanding. Not only does the pizza look incredible, but in the same space, you can get some fantastic-looking baked goods and desserts, too. That combination alone makes it sound like a place worth planning a stop around.
Next time I’m driving through Livingston, I’m definitely making it a priority to grab a slice or probably a full pie from The Engine Room Pizza.
