Montana has lost daylight every day since the Summer Solstice. There will be an hour and a half of daylight that we will lose in August. The weather will eventually get cooler and the frost will be hitting some areas in Montana this month.

The first weekend of November, is when we turn our clocks back an hour in Montana. We can say "in Montana" because not all states in the country change their clocks back an hour. Arizona, with the exception of the Navajo Nation, and Hawaii don't participate in Daylight Saving time. They don't need to change their clocks back, they are already there.

For Montana, we will be turning our clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at 2 am. This is a day that I look forward to, every year. It's a chance for us all to get that "extra" hour of sleep. That is, unless you have a pet. Our family dog will be waking me up to get fed at his regular feeding time. He is a smart dog, but we haven't been able to teach him how to tell time, yet.

Montana Needs Help If We Want to Stop the Clock Changes

Another year has passed since Montana passed legislation to stop changing our clocks in 2021.  We haven't reached the criteria to keep Montana in Mountain Daylight Time all year round. We need at least four other western states to pass similar legislation to make that happen.

I don't think I have met one person in my entire life who likes to change their clocks twice a year. Until we can get more states to see that, we are going to be continuing the tradition. I guess the only thing left for me to do is start a letter-writing campaign to all of our neighboring states imploring them to help us all do away with changing our clocks.
